Michael Van Valkenburgh’s Teardrop Park South at Battery Park City opens, creating a delightful indoor/outdoor relationship with Poets House
May 12th, 2010
Teardrop Park South, located in Battery Park City adjacent to Poets House, a branch of the NYC Public Library and Mercy Corps, opened to the public today. Our design for the Poets House auditorium takes full advantage of this adjacency in that we installed an operable glass wall that, when opened, allows Poets House to stage indoor/ outdoor poetry programs with additional seating in the park. In our design process, we closely collaborated with the MVVA team to create ample outdoor seating space for Poets House events that are aesthetically integrated with the naturalistic park design. We further amplified the possibility for program variability by creating multiple speaker locations within the auditorium, allowing for greater flexibility for diverse events.
